Welcome back, #IronQuesters!

#IronQuest recently teamed up with Tableau Visionaries; CJ Mayes, Tristan Guillevin and Ken Flerlage (Hall of Fame) to co-host the Advanced Chart Types round.

For this round, we were expecting a broad range of viz topics and unusual chart types and the entries did not disappoint! In fact, this was the most popular round we’ve hosted in the last two years! We received 34 submissions and welcomed 15 first-time participants to the project!

A record high of six vizzes entered for this round were selected by Tableau Public as Viz of the Day!

Congratulations to the following authors:

  • Brian Moore
  • Candice Che
  • Gbolahan Adebayo
  • Lisa Trescott
  • Saverio Rocchetti
  • Tanya Lomskaya

Be sure to check out their vizzes below!

Seeing the diverse topics covered and the creativity shown throughout the entries was fantastic! We were impressed by everyone’s efforts to create compelling, non-standard charts.

While the Tableau Public new chart types pilot has now closed, there are still plenty of resources from the community you can leverage to help you to build advanced chart types.

Here are some of our favourites:

Feedback

The co-hosts and I provided feedback to all first-time entrants who requested it during our recent conversation, now posted on YouTube. We had a lot of fun going through the entries and exploring the variety of topics covered.

We’re sorry we couldn’t review all of the entries this time but we simply had too many entries to cover.

Listen to/watch our feedback here:

We reviewed the vizzes in alphabetical order, by first name. The video is split into chapters to make it easier for you to jump to vizzes of interest.
